True Faith
Bible Text: John 4:43-54 | Preacher: Eric Kretschmer | Series: John
We typically will not pursue things unless we can see how they will directly benefit us personally. This can be both a strength and a weakness. It can be a strength in terms of time investment, focus in the work place, or pursuing our goals quickly. However, it can be a weakness when we apply pragmatism to judgments about what is right and wrong. According to John McArthur, “Spiritual and biblical truth is not determined by testing what “works” and what doesn’t. We know from Scripture, for example, that the gospel often does not produce a positive response… On the other hand, Satanic lies and deception can be quite effective. Majority reaction is no test of validity, and prosperity is no measure of truthfulness.” This is similar to what Jesus faced in his ministry in Galilee, and the section we are in this week in the Gospel of John.
