Slave or Free?
Bible Text: John 8:31-36 | Preacher: Eric Kretschmer | Series: John
This mornings’ passage is tightly connected to the idea of being enslaved vs. being freed from the master of sin. It is a profound section of Jesus’ teaching in Jerusalem among the Jews and Pharisees: A group of people that not only considered themselves to be freemen (non-salves), but God’s Chosen People as well. Remembering the context from a few weeks ago, the people being addressed by Jesus at this point in the Gospel of John were those who had believed in him, as we read at the end of our last section, and the first verse in this week’s passage.
