Dear Valley Bible Chalet,
The theme for our summer this year is “unashamed of the gospel.” Our theme comes from Romans 1:16 where Paul writes ” For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes…” In Paul’s day to proclaim that salvation came from a man who died a criminal’s death in the most humiliating and gruesome manner of crucifixion was a very shameful message indeed. What kind of God would die a death reserved for the lowest criminals of society? They had an idea of who they thought God was and Jesus just didn’t fit that picture. The culture scoffed and denounced Paul and his message as foolish.
We live in a similar day where many around us would say that we are too narrow-minded and foolish to claim that Jesus is the only way. It is fine to believe in a god or even multiple gods, but to proclaim the God of the Bible; the Jesus of the Scriptures is considered shameful by the world around us. Nevertheless this is our message. This is why we exist. We preach Christ and Him crucified. We preach the Christ of the Bible. We are not ashamed of the gospel of Christ because it is the power of salvation to every young person that comes to our camp.
