Paul has been arguing that if we live by a works-based Gospel rather than the Law-Free Gospel, we are trying to gain God’s approval on our own merits rather than trusting that the work of Christ on the cross was enough.

This morning Paul bolsters his argument by drawing our attention to the effective power of the Gospel. We will look at Paul’s argument dealing with the legal question of justification: “What is our standing before God as our judge if we have put our faith in His Son Jesus Christ alone?”
