I recognize that today is Father’s Day, and it just so happens that in this morning’s passage Paul is reminding the Christians in Philippi to follow his example as their mentor and teacher by living out their lives for God in the face of a hostile world. This is one of the crucial roles of the father in the Christian household as well: To be the role model, mentor, and teacher for the family in how to live a godly life, by fearing God and serving their wives and children in such a way as to help them live well for God.
